All My Favorite Authors Are Dead – Attending a Dead Author Reading

Well, I suppose that’s not entirely true. Rakoff and Sedaris are still alive. Ok let me think here….yup, all the rest are dead. So, imagine my excitement when I heard about the Dead Author Reading. The first Friday of every month at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre in Hollywood some of our favorite authors from the past appear and are interviewed by the equally famous H.G. Wells.

Essentially, Mr. Wells interviews the authors about their work, their lives, and what they think of this modern era they’ve landed in (for you see they have traveled through time to attend the reading). And I must say it is some fascinating (and hilarious) stuff! In March, I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Wells interview Emily Dickinson. And might I say, she was much saucier than I had envisioned. Up this Friday (May 6) is Robert Louis Stevenson. I’m looking forward to what he has to say.

So if you have a favorite author that’s unfortunately dead, fear not! They may appear shortly at the UCB Theatre for the measly fee of $5. All proceeds go to one of my favorite charities, 826LA.
